The Ascot And Retro Tie Trends At The Moment

By Pete Marigold

At the moment retro tie trends are in fashion, this means that people have reverted back to the skinny tie and ties have shed inches from the cut of last season. However there is a demand for the wide tie also and this retro trend seems to be seeing the ascot as being a leading contender.

The Ascot has long been thought to be the exclusive property of Hugh Hefner or effete English dandies, apparently this is no longer believed to be true! US macho and other macho guys are making use of this accessory to good effect. David Beckham is a fashion leader, and he has been seen wearing the Ascot on more than one occasion. Cary Grant was virtually born wearing a tie and Ashton Kucher has also been seen wearing an ascot type scarf under his shirt. Michale Johns the new American idols contender was encouraged to wear one by his stylist, and Panic at the Disco's Bendan Urie wears an ascot from time to time.

This tie derives its name from the Royal Ascot races held in the UK, they are traditional formal wear and formal wear is the order of the day at Royal Ascot. They have been worn for a few hundred yeas and are part of the evolutionary process of the tie. They have been called jabot's and cravats, but in actual fact an ascot is not as formal as a cravat.

The fact that retro ties are back in fashion has led Tommy Hilfiger to comment on these. He says that business means and people who want a more formal look are not ready to wear narrow ties. This makes ascots ideal, and they are manufactured from different fabrics and can be worn for different occasions. They are not only formal attire, just for the more sophisticated dresser.

Although these accessories have not become popular in the mainstream as yet, they are being worn by cool dressers with their jeans and T-shirts in both Japan and Europe. Effectively the wear of this item makes an edgy fashion impact which is far more extreme than wearing a tie or bow-tie.

The more attitude the wearer has, the better they are able to pull-of wearing an ascot. You have to be confident, not to appear self conscious, so a good-looking, confident man has no problem wearing one. The Hugh Hefner look is not a good look, and there are many other ways in which to wear an ascot which inspires confidence.

Fashion pundits are saying that the ascot is going to become one of the most sought after male fashion accessories to make an individualized statement. They provide a great opportunity to add color to an outfit and offer men the chance to wear a stick pin, which is very tasteful in terms of men's jewelry.
